Evanston Transportation

Evanston, IL, the first suburb north of Chicago city limits, offers an easy commute to and from the city of Chicago. Due to its close proximity, extensive public transportation, including bus and train routes are offered throughout the city of Evanston.

The city of Evanston is served by the Metra Train system, with a stop in the heart of downtown Evanston. The Metra serves Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, including Cook, DuPage, Lake, Will, McHenry and Kane counties.

Evanston, IL is also served by the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) “L,” which is a Chicago area nickname for the elevated train system. The “L” has many stops in the city of Evanston and runs throughout all of Chicago. Evanston is on the purple line of the CTA’s “L” system.

The city of Evanston’s extensive public transportation system can also be accessed through Pace Bus suburban bus routes, including the 208, 213, 250 and 426 bus routes.
